Subpop Records
On their third album, and just starting to make waves amongst compilers of 2010’s one to watch lists, this Baltimore based duo create pop so evocative of a gentleness seascape that the salt catches in the back of your throat and you can almost feel the grains of sand in your plimsoll. The whoozy wheeze of a sea breeze permeates, and even on a dark English morning the glimmer of a haze of sunshine is evident. The whimsical softness of the music and pleasantries of the lyrics caress, tunes so laid back that they must have been recorded horizontally. Unfortunately, this somnolent feeling becomes all too apparent, and things get repetitive. New album ‘Teen Dreams’ is seductive stuff, but I’d fall asleep before this teen got into my knickers.
