Ahead of their new album Jem, out in May on Bella Union, Bernard & Edith have released the video for Heartache, a visually striking and attractive video set in a fantasy world of bubbles and candy colours. The track confirms Nick ‘Bernard’ Delap’s and Greta ‘Edith’ Caroll’s talent for rolling drum beats, inventive melodies and broody vocals. Theirs is a defiant and explosive sound, embellished with delicate sonics. At times the tracks expand and morph into something almost spectral and ethereal, evoking thoughts of The Cocteau Twins, and their experimental imagery is beguiling whilst being accessible. Unique and varied, shimmering with brilliance and dazzling beats, Heartache is a rather heartwarming tune.
