John Constable: The Making of a Master really is an exhibition focusing on that former element, the ‘making’ rather than just the output of this English ‘master.’ The latest exhibition from the Victoria & Albert museum reminds us that talent is learned and the great painters studiously admired and copied those who had gone before them. A collection of artwork, sketches and canvases from both Turner and some of those whom he learned from, such as Rubens, Lorrain and Gainsborough. It is a comprehensive look at the processes and paintings of the eighteenth century landscape painter.
