A frantic fuzz pot of a debut from LA duo The Bots. An African- American-Asian heritage, a record collection of reggae, blues, and garage rock, an A-Z of talent (well, Damon Albarn to Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner) and tender age (Mikajah is twenty and Anaiah Lei seventeen) have all served the siblings well. Contagious and unrestrained, it blends old-school jams with youthful vibrancy, garage rock with a blues-soaked soul, pop beats with clattering drums, all on a crushing writhe of tunes. For the most part clattering, bouncy and fun, there are still moments of twitchy introversion delivered with teenage cool. It’s the sound of two kids growing through music, and packs a powerful punch.
