BABii is a small girl who makes big noises. The Margate artist produces all her own beats, writes all her own words, makes all her own pictures and uses all her limbs and voice when she plays live. Her first single Phantom is out now. I had a quick chat with her to find out more…

Can you tell me a bit more about your work?

✿.。.:* ☆:**:. I am BABii ❉ I make electronic music, it’s dreamy ❁ but I will also punch you in the face. .:**:.☆*.:。.✿

How long have you been writing?

*•.¸♡ Since I was real little, grew up around a lot of dusty junk and treasures in a big old mill and I would always find something to make a noise with and tell people they were songs even though at that point it was just a racket. It got more refined as time went on. ♡¸.•*

You’re based in Margate – what influence does the seaside town have on your music?

◦•●◉✿ Margate is like paradise to me. I am surrounded by so many amazing and talented people, and I also have the time and space to make 70000 things everyday if I want to and make noise at pretty much anytime of day in my little studio. I feel so lucky to of ended up here. ✿◉●•

Why did you decide to focus on the themes of hiding and secrets?

`*•.¸,¤°´✿.。.:* It’s kinda what HiiDE grew into. At the time I was writing it I felt hidden and that I was also hiding things, from myself and other people. Hiding and secrets are really interesting because when you think about it they are so silent and immaterial, yet so big and loud at the same time, you can always feel when a secret is present, you might try and fill in the gaps and make phantom memories because of it, or even get plagued with a secret that you can never reveal and it might eat you up inside. Secrets are secretly powerful and hiding is a prison. *.:。.✿`°¤,¸.•*´

What’s next?

It’s a secret but you can have a clue. It’s gonna be about driving cars fast at night time. ☻☻☻☻
