Beautiful strings and sketchy beats, glitchy synths and soaring wails, soft cooing vocals and powerful assertions, vulnerable verses and acidic cutting choruses, on new song Beating Coves have taken every genre, every sound, every tactic, every noise, thrown them together without depleting the power of the individual but making every single one greater than the some of its parts. At three minutes in we are treated to what sounds like swooning woodwind, which has no right to be there, but works gloriously. Robust and rousing, it grows into a mystifying blooming crescendo, the disintegrating relationship Beck Wood sings off dissipating into an ethereal and energetic spacey tune. Bubbling with hiss, crackling synths, its full of disintegrating snarls and giddy intensity, all delivered with cinematic sleekness. Some shoegaze, C86, dreampop, disco, goth, psychedelia, everything we have come to expect from Coves since their formation in 2011, and their debut EP Cast A Shadow which was released last year is here to full effect. Just fantastic

Juveniles – Strangers

Strangers is the glimmering and dazzling track from French Duo Juveniles (conveniently I have just downloaded the press shot…hot too), also known as Jean-Sylvain Le Gouic and Thibaut Doray, swoon. Upbeat, building to a dizzying crescendo and hopping between euphoric and elegiac, they bounce off each other in the kind of way that only those who know each other inside out can do. Their debut EP was released by Kitsune, the mother, father, sister, brother of all things cool, and by all accounts more of this dizzingly militant beats will be available on an album near you soon.

Scared To Dance Pulp Special

Look for Scared To Dance and you’ll find a twice monthly club night, fanzine, and podcasts, all of which are packed with the kind of music we like to hear – indiepop, new wave, sixties pop, post-punk, punk, synthpop, C86, lo-fi and DIY music. Home is London, but they’ve taken the night to New York, Oslo, Edinburgh, Bergen and the Indietracks Festival.
We thought that they pretty much had it nailed.
Then, inspired by a little fireside reading of Jarvis Cocker’s Mother, Brother, Lover, they decided to make this Saturday’s Scared To Dance a Pulp special! Whether or not you remember the first time, it would be madness to not get your razzamatazz on this Saturday, 29^th October, at Kings Cross Social Club, 2 Britannia Street. Very little in life is better than dancing to Common People, Disco 2000 or Babies and the like, so why would you go out anywhere else?

It's All Happening DJ Early Doors Disco!

On Wednesday 7th November the ONLY place for all hip young things who are fans of dancing, drinking, and dreaming at a reasonable hour, is Drink, Shop, Dance, the eclectic venue in King’s Cross. The fantastic Early Doors Disco continue their monthly residency, and have invited It’s All Happening along for the party. Pictures from the last event look pretty epic, so we hope to see you there unashamedly throwing your best shapes.
