There was once a time when King’s Cross was best known for sex, smack and smog, but those days have passed and an injection of funding and a wealth of open minds has seen it morph into a haven of culture and community. So it doesn’t feel out of place that the fresh air, twinkling streams and freedom of the Green Man festival, has chosen to take a trip from the Brecon Beacons to central London and chosen the location to host its latest celebration of good music – only a couple of weekends after St Vincent, Hot Chip, Super Furry Animals and Father John Misty all captivated the festival goers in the hills.
This weekend the Green Man crew are showcasing some of the best music around at The Courtyard. Whether it’s a beer and ale festival with some tunes to serenade, or a music event with some awesome pints on tap, the line up is impressive. Celebrating the best Welsh Beer and Cider from independent breweries, they’ve promised that this is going to be a ‘mini Green Man type celebration’, so expect open minds, big hearts, curiosity, innovation, discovery, and thrills along with the music and drinks.
Open daily from 11am until 11pm, Courtyard is completely free to attend. Pints are slightly cheaper if bought in advance and priority entrance given to anyone who has pre-purchased beer tokens. There’s a whole bunch of tasting workshops, including ale and cheese pairing with Buster Grant, tutored tasting with the Tudor Brewery, and a discussion on the rise of the microbrewery. The music line up includes The Wave Pictures, Happiness, Novella and Tom Williams, as well as whole host of others below.
Check out the video from We Are Cardiff for a hint of the Green Man vibe, and head on down to Lewis Cubitt Square, King’s Cross for more this weekend, September 10th-13th.

Celebrate St David’s Day with the guys at Green Man festival on Saturday, as the team decamps from the Black Mountains to London’s Cecil Sharpe House for their annual Hwyl. The home of the English folk dance and song society, Cecil Sharpe House is an ideal location for the Green Man’s unique blend of alternative, stimulating and original music and art programme, and as a taster for the main event is more than appetising.

It’s all about celebrating the magic of Wales, with a wonderful mix of new and traditional Welsh Arts, including comedians Elis James and Mike Bubbins, arts installations, poetry from Owen Sheers, Patience Agbabi and Haf Davies, theatre, a traditional Welsh Twmpath and workshops, all accompanied by tasty Welsh ales and ciders and Welsh food. Music comes from Teleman, Sweet Baboo, Stanley Brinks, Georgia Ruth, and Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog, alongside a traditional Welsh Twmpath. If that’s not enough the Dylan Thomas Book Bus will be on site, and perfomances from Tangerino Circus running through out the day.

It’s a great taster for August’s festival, where St Vincent, Hot Chip, Viet Cong, Goat and The Wave Pictures have all been confirmed to play.
