Some days you know that you need to stretch your body, connect with your soul, and come to your mat. But if you are in a new place, your regular class is not on, or you simply want to try somewhere new, it can be hard to know where to find a class.
Technology to the rescue, as per usual. A number of new apps have been developed to help yogis find a space in which to practice. Lululemon’s Om Finder detects a user’s location and shows yoga classes happening at studios around them, including time and directions, and is now in over 60 countries. Along a similar vein is MindBody Yoga, which also searches nearby for classes and opportunities. Keen to understand a bit more about the drive for such products, I spoke to Beau Bergeron of YogaBuddy, the app that offers anyone the opportunity to discover, book, and share creative and uplifting yoga classes beyond the traditional gym or studio.
History – Herstory: two sides
Exploring both sides of the story through music and words, Booked and It’s All Happening are celebrating Women’s History Month, by listening to what both the guys and girls have to say. Booked plays host to spoken words events that explore the world through words, collaborating with the people who brought you It’s All Happening, a music zine that run gigs to share the good music they have heard. Expect the usual top quality poetry, music, spoken word and singing, all within a quirky and intimate setting in the creative hub of London town.
The event is on Sunday 17th March from 6.30pm at The Book Club, Leonard Street, EC2 and tickets are only £5 in advance! Buy here http://www.wegottickets.com/event/210302 The first was a sell out, so buy early!
Featuring dynamic spoken word from the man described as a verbal wizard – Charlie Dupre, soothing and searing vocal harmonies courtesy of Eliza Shaddad, and delightful acoustic folk delivered through the blonde beard of TorbenTietz. Julie Mayhew will be reading a short extract from her darkly funny novel Red Ink; the evening also features short stories from the cynical/romantic collection Lover’s Lies, read by Bobbie Darbyshire. Camila Fiori is introducing some of her unique poetry, as is the direct and engaging ‘cultural terrorist’ Megan Beech, all of which will be wonderfully woven together under the guidance of our compere, Dan Simpson.

Here it is. Evidence that not only did the It’s All Happening festival did, er, happen, but that it was a damn good day to boot. Check out performances from Alessi’s Ark, Soulmates Never Die, The Ruby Kid, Silent Devices, and Fallingham Fair, and many others, marvel at the ambient surroundings of The Gallery Cafe, appreciate the delightful adornments and decoration, courtesy of Bronwyn Opland and the girls.
Again we would like to thank all the artists, be you of the music, art, spoken word, poetry or craft type, for your time, talent, and entertainment, The Gallery Cafe and St Margaret’s Settlement – good space and great staff, Rob Taylor & Aidan for making sound happen, Bronwyn & the girls for beautifying things, Lara for preserving the memories, The To Do List and everyone who helped spread the word, and all those who came down to enjoy the day.
Of course, the beauty of the visual art form is that you don’t have to read lengthy written musings – you can let the images do the talking. Here you are then:

Festival season wreaks havoc on the body. Great for the mind and nectar for the soul, there comes a point in late September (nay, even the Saturday morning of most festivals) when the body is screaming out for some rest and recuperation. Turns out that getting vitamins from cider and protein from burgers does not a balanced diet make, and so sometimes a little help is needed to get through the fun.
Which is why my rucksack will contain some of these little energy boosters that both get the juices flowing in the morning, and help to head of that hangover.
There’s Nature’s Plus Potent C, which contains B vitamins, electrolytes and vitamin C, to help combat the damage caused by alcohol and cigarettes (sorry Mum), as well as ginseng and bee pollen for an energy boost, or the Red Lightening version, which has extracts from over 30 superfoods – essentially the elixir of health. Both of these are in handy sachet form (fits in a pocket!) and can make the water from the campsite taste a hell of a lot better, as well as reviving you.

If mixing yourself is too hard, there is also Scheckter’s OrganicEnergy Lite, an organic energy drink that is light on sugar. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Tasting a million times better than Red Bull (although I didn’t try it with vodka) and being infinitely better for you, this is a no brainer for a refreshing drink to reinvigorate you.
Ever wondered why Marmite on toast always sorts you out after a night on the razz? It’s B12. Toasters are hard to come by in the field, so Nature’s Plus Shot-O-B12 contains a hefty dose of the wonder vitamin.
Having organised, held, and massively enjoyed the first It’s All Happening festival this year (see this lovely video from Alessi’s Ark) and pretty much relied on these to get me through the office comedown, I can vouch they work. My ‘never again’ has already become a ‘where’s my wellies?’

Photos and words by Caroline Schimtt

The full potential of a weekend only gets properly unleashed when you start your Friday night at the King’s Head – which is not a big surprise nor for those West Londoners in the know. Kicking the weekend off here with It’s All Happening equals success.
Check out some photos of the acts who blew us away on May 4th!
Possessing an impressive array of albums, years of experience and musical abilities under his belt, Ceri James, soothed and roused the crowd with his mix of folk meets rock – and raised some smiles by way of The Real Coffee Shop.

The Frayed Laces draw on a broad variety of different styles. Once a metal band, they have now stripped back and slowed down, allowing the talent to shine. There were slow and folky songs that reminded this reviewer a little of Katie Melua whereas others were underlined by impulsive and eclectic beats that didn’t fail to get the audience dancing!

Eastend Promises, a rock indie band who deliver an energetic performance with intelligent melofies were a little more typical for what’s usually happening in Acton. With a slightly aggressive tone, lead singer Lewis united his band for a good 45 minutes and made the walls shiver.

So, the only conclusion left: Get your majestic butts down to the King’s Head on Friday as there’ll be another great set of talented acts!
