The Belgian dreampop group Few Bits centres around Karolien Van Ransbeeck – and what a shimmering centre she makes. With vocals like the city sun setting in a balmy summer mingling, or the dying embers of a sparkler (see the video) with dreamy guitars that linger on intimately, it sounds both modern and timeless. Starting with a repeated beat and short sharp lyrics, their simple sound shifts and strains whilst it lulls you into a reverie. The perfect music to let wash over you, in the best possible way.

Obaro Ejimiwe, aka Ghostpoet, is one of the most distinctive, instinctive and distinguished artists out there. Blurring the lines between performance poetry and traditional musician ship, his acute and articulate story telling over mesmerizing beats is captivating, and shows how astute Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson was when he “took a risk on a random maverick” back in 2010 by signing him to Peterson’s Brownswood imprint. That year Ghostpoet’s debut album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, marked him out as one of the most distinctive and boundary pushing artists in British music, and was rewarded with a surprise Mercury Prize nomination in 2011. Sudden and unexpected the story is one of talent winning out. news of a record deal came in the same week that he was made redundant from his office job in insurance. Now signed to [PIAS], Ghostpoet’s creativity continues to grow, and second album, Some Say I So I Say Light is even more multifaceted, blending the abstract and the substance with skill and panache. On Thursday 24th Oct after a few months of, although attendees of the recent Apartment 58 festival were treated to an intimate gig earlier this week) Ghostpoet returns to the stage at the grandiose Hackney Empire. If you like music, words, poetry and people, its not one to miss.

As the name suggest, each week we bring you three of the best free downloads that are kicking around out there. From straight up indie to Indian influences, rock’n’roll to reggae rhythms, grizzling guitars or soothing strumming, this is the place to open your mind and ears and check out something new. After all, won’t cost you a penny!

Frenetics – Ella

Frantic and frenetic as the name suggests, this is glam rock and swaggering pop from the Yorkshire band Frenetics.

Lord Huron – Time To Run

An eclectic and electronic endeavour Lord Huron‘s Time To Run is a happy clappy tune frpm debut album Lonesome Sounds, released on October 9th, just in time to herald the end of the summer.

Andy Burrows – Company

Andy Burrows is offering up Company, from his solo album of the same name, released on Play It Again Sam, on October 22nd. The former Razorlight member deserves kudos simply for not being Johnny Borrell – this piece of raw confident indie is just an added bonus.

Released on February 20th 2012, on PIAS

Regardless of how good the song is, we had to post this video of the new single Bones from Young Guns, simply due to the comically sincere PR quote.
‘Strength comes from our bones – the knowledge that, deep down, nothing is impossible. Bones, the stunning new single, and album of the same name, from Young Guns, captures exactly that: it’s a hymn to bravery and boldness, the defining statement so far from one of our finest bands.’
It’s a rawwwk anthem, in the style of Lost Prophets and Incubus, emotion and angst delivered through feedback and melodic distortion, from a band tipped to be the next big thing by Zane Lowe. Out on Monday 20th February, two weeks after their debut of the same name.
