Girls and guitars are either described as angry or gentle – the binary divides that exist in much of our lives plays out even when it comes to music. But Bryde is both fierce and fragile, and on new single Honey she echoes early PJ Harvey, more upbeat and intense than her previous single Wait. Attitude heavy and searing with ballsy energy, Sarah Howells turns up the electric guitars in the thrilling tune, and ropes The Coral’s Bill Ryder-Jones on production duties. A thrilling addition to the set on her upcoming tour.

Bubbling along with a sugary melody and bouncing chords, Emily Capell‘s new single Joey is jam packed full of the humour and smiles that make her such a bright spark on the local music scene. The lyrics sound like a set of instructions to her dear Joey, but are delivered with such vibrancy and wholesome sparkle that there’s a certain delight enrobed in their tongue in cheek delivery. Playing with her band, the Three Pete Sweet, Joey is a double A side single, backed by the equally ballsy Applejack and released on Clashsounds Records. Lacking some of the strength of previous tracks, but still full of smiles, it’s a fun release that will no doubt enrapture her ever growing legion of fans.

“The lyrics are about realising that everything you think you should have achieved doesn’t really matter because the important achievements are those that come naturally and imprint on…

“The lyrics are about realising that everything you think you should have achieved doesn’t really matter because the important achievements are those that come naturally and imprint on you because they’re the relationships you have with people”
That’s what Sam Robson, lead vocalist of Club Smith says of new single Lament, the first video to be taken from their debut album Appetite for Chivalry, which will be released on 11th November through All Sorted records.

The video is part of a project that Club Smith wanted to create which emulated the studio versions live. This the first and includes members of The Sunshine Underground and Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry play, and was filmed at The Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds, which has a lot of history as a hub for culture in Leeds.
