Reviewed by Francesca Baker

Lifting poetry from the page, playing all instruments himself, and recorded and produced across some of the UK’s more unusual musical locations including an haunted industrial mill Shaun Hunter is nothing if not ambitious. A clever and noble idea is however let down in its execution. Rather than epic sonispheres of Elbow et all, opener Soon is more reminiscient of James Blunt, and Still Talking Scribble is indeed an aural scrawl. Over the length of thirteen songs the evocation of a campestral idyll gives way to a drab and dreary landscape, insubstantial and forgettable. From Cathedral Cities to Dark Northern Towns is a highlight, the cadence of its Wild Beasts esque howls compellingly rhythmic, but this glimpse of brilliance is all too isolated in this rather disjointed piece.
