Own Designed Love is the new single from London based The ID, released on October 29^th. The video synthesised various off kilter images and loops in a slightly surrealist style, an avant garde montage inspired by the work of Buneul, Dali and Cocteau, among others, all linked together by the Dadist movement that influences so much of the band’s ethos and output.
In Own Designed Love The different elements of the band are more layered, building upon one another but each its own entity, flickering and flirting together, rather than compressed in intensity as in Age Anti Age, the debut single from earlier in the year. A swelling onslaught of emotion, the song’s simmering menace is somewhat intoxicating in aura, and the perpetual build of dark melody into a hooky chorus marks the band out as master song smiths, and definite ones to watch. Conveniently, they’re playing the No.6 Basement on Oct 27th, Waiting Room on Nov.14th, and Camden’s Barfly the first day of December, so you can go and watch them!

Et Tu Bruce – Suburban Sunshine

As soon as you read the words ‘from Hanwell’ you know that a band are never going to be the most radical, and certainly won’t be vying the best for rock’n’roll excess infamy.
Having lived there, I can confirm that life experiences in the West London suburb are somewhat staid. Rather than let this crush their inner musical yearnings, Et Tu Bruce have embraced sweet simplicity, releasing their new (slightly tongue in cheek titled?) album Suburban Sunshine.
These guys have been lapping up praise in the US, and on our side of the pond found fans in Amazing Radio, BBC 6 Music, Absolute and XFM, and it’s easy to see why. Radio friendly melodies looped together with hooks straight out of the ‘how to write a pop song’ manual make Et Tu Bruce a pleasant listen. And I mean pleasant in its true definition, not the defamation it has come to insinuate by the cynics among us; i.e. good, not shit.
Lyrics such as ‘never say never again’ (Never Say Trevor Again) and ‘if I could I’d be your man’ (Never Seen You Cry) verge on the cliche, and the sunny chord sequences reveal the influence of a record collection consisting of The Beatles, The Kinks and The Byrds, they’re not the most original of bands, but we don’t always need that. Sometimes a good solid pop album is enough. And Suburban Sunshine is just that. You can buy it now from all the usual outlets.

I've been lazy: Part 1: The Wombats

So I attended my first EVER gig! A while back though, to be fair, but still, I loveloveloveloveloved it! The Wombats are one of my favorite bands ever and the atmosphere at the concert was incredible! I took a load of pictures and videos, in a hope to make a post about the concert on here, but, as you can see from the title: I’ve been lazy!
Anyway, about The Wombats, well, it was fabby dabby fantastico! I went with my sister (made it more fun!) and the whole gig started off with Supporting Bands: Get People and Cafe Zedlin? I hope I’m right! Anyway Cafe Zedlin (if I’m right about they’re name) were really really good, and they got suuuuch a great response from the crowd. I did prefer them to Get People, as Get People almost seemed like a DJ’s Sound Board being played around (harsh I know) but the two bands definitely fit The Wombats style.
Then The Wombats came on, and they were incredible. A couple of they’re songs I hadn’t heard, as I haven’t really thoroughly listened to much of their new album, but the songs were still good! I waited pretty much the entire night in anticipation for my 3 favorite songs: Moving To New York, Lets Dance to Joy Division and Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) and at one point, I was severely worried that they weren’t going to play ‘Joy Division’ as they basically said goodbye. But luckily, the screaming and the shouting from the crowd got them to come back and play one more song, whoop!

Then the concert ended and I was literally shaking with excitement and happiness, sort of similar to the beginning of the concert where I shook with nerves and my brain imagining some dark pit underground where they would play and I would get trampled on, but a lot nicer!
It put me in such a good mood for the night, but I literally collapsed into bed. So, basically, great night.
Lets dance to joy division, and celebrate the irony… cos this could *yawn* all go so wro… zzZZzzZzzz

Recognise that? Course you do, but for what reason?

Literally every girl on the universe has taken a picture of themselves, posted it on Facebook with those lyrics as the caption and suddenly after 34 seconds of having been posted, the picture has 14 likes and 17 pretty similar comments reading ” omg babe u stunnaa!xx lolz, no jkee u beauuut!xx♥”. Not that thats a bad thing, they’re obviously talking about the lyrics and not the seemingly moody girl with a duckface pose. Yeah, you know the type…
You have amazing taste in music, and therefore have heard Ed Sheeran’s The A Team.
You saw example number 1, searched example 2 and you are now on example 3, the most probable answer.

The A Team is an acoustic yet rather sad song that tells the story of a young prostitue who suffers from abuse and drug addiction, the song tells of her struggles through life and ends in her death. I thought that either the song was that it sounded almost too real to have been purely fake or, this an excellent example of Sheeran’s creativity, but a quote from Ed Sheeran reveals that The A Team is based on a true story: ‘The song is a true story and was written by Sheeran after meeting a girl called Angel, whilst volunteering at a Crisis homeless shelter. He told The Sun July 15, 2011: ‘I wrote that song last year in a student flat in Guildford. I recorded it for less than £200 and made the video for under £20. In two weeks we’d sold 200,000 copies. I’ve made a song about a homeless prostitute who has been able to get on A-list radio.’

And the song hasn’t just touched moody-duckface-girl facebookers, but many parents as well. Sheeran told Q magazine: ‘After it got into the charts I got lots of messages from parents saying that something similar had happened to their daughters. When I wrote it I never thought that it would connect with so many people, but it’s great it has.’
