Typhoon – Offerings

Portland band Typhoon, made of 11 talented individuals, and numbering up to 15 members live, have something of a sparkle about them. Their forthcoming album Offerings is a storytelling piece, split into four ‘movements’ that tell of a journey. It centres on a fictional man who is losing his memory, and in turn, his sense of self. The album’s four passages represent the mental phases the main character goes through where he first realizes that 1) something is wrong, then 2) struggles through the chaos of his situation, and 3) moves into acceptance before 4) succumbing to his dreadful fate. The album starts of gently, a slow simmering strum over echoing vocals, before an abrupt jolt into an energetic riff and mellifluous melodies. With sketchy rhythms and expansive instrumentals, it’s an evocative soundscape that tells of big things. Offerings is out January 12th on Roll Call / The Orchard.
