Japanese four piece The fin. make simmering and glistening dream pop evocative of empty nights rather than frenetic pace and angst that we so often associate with any artistic output from Japan. Formed in 2012 and based in the seaside town of Kobe, their sound is sophisticated, cool and catchy, like beams slowly emanating from a disco ball, lights fluttering by in a slow glow.
Writer and vocalist Yuto Uchino says of the track, ‘When I wrote Night Time, I was living far from a train station. If I missed the last train, I walked back home alone in the middle of the night. There were no cars, no people and sometimes no lights. But I had a lot of things in my head, such as past memories, hopes and fears. All of them turned into this song.’
Night Time is the lead track from The fin.’s first UK release, an EP mastered by Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Warpaint, Deerhunter) and released on December 4.
