Truck Trio – 2009

Three of the best bands from this year’s Truck Festival. We would say it was truckin’ awesome, but that’s been done to death…
Sam Isaac
Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World, 0/10 from the NME – the music press are divided on Sam Isaac, which is surprising given the inoffensive nature of his music. Hopeful and expansive, although sometimes lacking direction, Sam Isaac is a pleasant soundtrack to chilled out evenings.
ChewLips
Euphoric and uninhibited eighties pop, if ChewLips were a packet of sweets, they’d be Refreshers. Tigs is a buoyant frontwoman, embodying the pulsating rhythms and smooth vibrations of tracks like Solo and Salt Air. Seductive and stimulating, ChewLips are an effulgent part of what is quickly becoming a saturated genre.
The Hot Rats
Yes, you have seen those ape like features before, it’s Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffrey, two thirds of Supergrass. A covers band, rather than playing cheesy pop they play songs that were genuinely good the first time round, (Beastie Boys, The Cure, The Velvet Underground) without mauling them the second time around. Coming across as an enthusiastic adventure stimulated by a night on the vino, rather than self indulgent self promoting, The Hot Rats are a lively night out, and old fashioned entertainment at its best.
