Some alliteration, a name ended in y, and a reference to the simple things in life – all sounds very sweet doesn’t it. From the first beat of Higher such saccharin delusions are stamped upon, as this cut-throat single stylishly cascades on, with far more depth and grittiness than that Florence could ever hope to capture. The initial heart pulsing drum beat is swept with lush guitar and soaring vocals into a full adrenalin rush of a chorus. As well as a dramatic dance tune, ‘Higher’ manages to also be stripped back and agonizely anthemic in parts. All in all, a more than pleasurable experience.
