Boy I’ve missed The Subways. Not in a long time have I heard anything that compares to the forthright confidence and swagger of Young For Eternity, swooping up bucketfuls of enthusiasm in Rock’n’Roll Queen and straightforward love and lust such as that in With You. Well, they’reback, and are in the studio recording a new album, with producer Stephen Street, the had behind seminal albums from Blur, The Smiths and Kaiser Chiefs, among others). Through platform PledgeMusic, they are asking fans to sign up and donate to fund the recording, with the incentives being, alongside knowing that they made music happen, the opportunity to win signed instruments, a limited edition photo album, the Subways play a private house concert, a two year VIP pass to all Subways gigs and the chance to sing backing vocals on the album! Fan funding albums is still something relatively new, and I’m excited to see how this pans out.
